Our First MAC Game

On thursday we set off for our first weekend of MAC play. After a long bus ride, we kicked off conference play against Northern Illinois. NIU came out fired up, while we, on the other hand, started off flat. NIU found their way onto the scoreboard early into the first half, and would notch another one only a few minutes later. Down 0-2 early into the first half, we found ourselves in a huge whole. We pushed forward and tried to put pressure on their defenders. Alyssa Zucarro nearly scored in the last minutes of first-half play, but was denied by the inside of the far post. We entered the halftime break frustrated, but hopefull.

We were able to regroup and produced a much better second half. Alyssa Zucarro found the back of the net off a Colleen Kordan free-kick to cut the lead to 1-2. Z's goal gave the team some life and we continued to push forward. The game began to get a bit "chippy", as both teams were fighting for a MAC win, which would eventually be awarded to NIU, who would hang on to their 2-1 lead for the victory.

Although extremely dissapointed with the loss, the team is looking forward to getting back on track when they play Western Michigan on Sunday, for their second MAC game.
