BG earns first Conference Point over the Weekend

The BG Women's Soccer team played two games on the road this weekend. The team earned a point toward MAC play with a 1-1 draw with Northern Illinois. Alyssa Zuccaro scored the equalizer against NIU (with help from fellow teammate Megan Amann) less then 2 minutes after the team went down 1-0 to the Huskies. The game ended in a 1-1 draw after two overtime periods, despite some great opportunities for the Falcons to score the game winner.

The team looked to earn three points against Sunday's opponent, Western Michigan, but suffered a heart-breaking 3-2 loss with the Broncos scoring the deciding goal with only 54 seconds remaining in the match. On the day, two different falcons found the back of the net. Freshman Sarah VonderBrink scored her first goal of the season, on an assist from Alyssa Zuccaro, and Sophomore Katelyn Turner rounded out the scoring on a Free Kick service from Colleen Kordan.

The Falcons will now travel to Ball State (Friday) and Miami (Sunday) for the second week of nail biting MAC play. Check back in to see how we do!

Leaving the Fun and Sun of Cali

We had a very busy, and fun, Saturday during our stay in California. First, we went for a training session to get some touches on the ball and to get some stretching in. We also took a team picture with the beautiful california landscape in the background before heading back to the hotel.

After practice, the team headed for a quick lunch and shower before heading to Venice beach. What a site that was! The team put their feet in the beautiful pacific ocean and had many laughs while people watching. Venice beach is, by far, the strangest place we have ever visited while traveling! Assistant Coach Bri got in on the fun and helped a street performer with his act...he was a glass walker! After the quick stop in Venice Beach, the team traveled to Carson City to the infamous Home Depot Soccer Center to watch the one and only David Beckham and the LA Galaxy take on Toronto FC. The Galaxy won 2-0 and Beckham was exciting to watch (and to look at!)

We ended our trip with an unfortunate 2-0 loss to a very good UC-Irvine team, who are regionally ranked. Despite our two losses, the team played some very good, competitive soccer, with everyone on the team contributing throughout the weekend.

We returned home to BG with a hunger to start MAC play this coming weekend. We will take on our first MAC foe at NIU Friday, and then will travel to Western Michigan for our Sunday match.

Check back soon for video and photos of our California Trip!

Rollin' Along in Cali

Yesterday we had a walk through on UC Riverside's field. Despite the 101 degrees heat, we had a good practice. Before the game we hit up one of our team favorites-Chilis!

We played our first game in Cali against UC Riverside and lost 2-0. We fought a hard battle and connected well, but didn't get the result we wanted. We hope to come out strong on Sunday and bring a win back to BG!

We are heading off to practice soon, then we have a fun day planned ahead. Check up later to hear about what we did today in Cali-ROLL ALONG.

We made it!

Well, we made it to Cali. 8 hours after begining our journey we arrived in the LAX airport and promptly piled into 5 "soccer mom" vans to start our tour of California. After a quick and delicious meal at P.F. Changs, the group headed over to Hollywood to take part in the taping of the Jimmy Kimmel show. The traffic did not cooperate though, and we were forced to give up our Kimmel tickets because we did not meet the cut-off time for arrival :(

We spent some time strolling down the Hollywood Walk of Fame and saw the Kodiak theater as well. We also had our first celebrity siting! The cast of the TV show "House" were gathered on a Red Carpet outside of some sort of premier.

Well, its getting late. We better get some rest because we have some sun tanning at the pool to do tomorrow...don't tell Andy!

The Trip Begins...

Eager to get to California, we boarded a BGSU Shuttle bus to go to the Detroit Airport. Arriving slightly late, Amie was almost left behind but we quickly realized it and opened the bus door for her right before leaving. The wait in the airportt\ was a short one and getting through security didn't take as long as we thought it would, despite people forgetting that you can't bring bottles of water through the checkpoint (Kelsey and vondy!). We're about to board our plane to fly to Chicago and after a short lay-over, WE'LL BE IN CALIFORNIA!!!! :)

BG Improves to 4-3-0, Beats YSU

Sunday afternoon, the BGSU Lady Falcons earned a 2-0 victory over the Penguins of Youngstown State. Freshman Keely Chandler was the obvious player of the game, having scored both goals in the win. Chandler finished a great back post chip that was provided by Alicia Almond during the first half, and then tallied her 2nd goal by slipping the ball into the net off a Megan Amann cross during the second half.

In the match, the team also recorded their 3rd shutout on the young season, with Alexa Arsenault and Becca Ison splitting time in goal. A total of 22 BGSU players saw game action on the day.

The weekend also ushered in some fun as the team volunteered hours for the annual BG Black Swamp Art Festival. Video of their volunteer experience can be found below.

BG comes undone against St. Bonaventure

The "Bonnies" of St. Bonaventure scored off a corner kick in the 17th minute of play and would not relinquish the 1-0 lead for a win over the Falcons on Friday night. The loss snapped a 10-0-1 home unbeaten streak for the Falcons, and dropped the team to a 3-3-0 record. The team looks to bounce back for Sunday's contest against the Penguins of Youngstown State. Kick off is set for 1:00pm at BGSU's Cochrane field.

Come support us at our last home game before we begin a 3 weekend campaign of away games!

BG earns 2 wins and 2 shutouts

The BGSU Women's Soccer Team put together a very successful two-win weekend. On Friday, the team traveled up to Detroit-Mercy to take on the Titans. BG held the Titans scoreless for 90 minutes, while finding the back of the opposition's net 4 times. Colleen Kordan, Leah Johnson (1 goal and 2 assists on the day), Katelyn Turner and Katie Stephenson each tallied a goal during the contest, while Alexa Arsenault and Becca Ison combined for the shutout.

The team continued its winning ways on Sunday as they handed IPFW a 1-0 loss, with Megan Amann scoring the game-winner in the 60th minute. The assist on Amann's goal went to both Katelyn Turner and Megan Moran. Goalkeeper Alexa Arsenault played all 90 minutes between the pipes, recording 5 saves, including a clutch breakaway save in the second half, to earn the shutout. With the shutout, Alexa moves into first place on the all-time shutout list, having recorded a total of 18 career shutouts.

The Brown and Orange will continue their home-stand next weekend as they take on St Bonaventure on Friday (5:00) and Youngstown State on Sunday (1:00).

Come support the team as we defend our home turf!

MSU tops BGSU in Away Match

The Michigan State Spartans found the net 4 times in their win over BGSU on Sunday. The Spartans were a tremendous threat offensively and they looked in top form during the 90 minute game. At many times during the game, the Falcons were able to get a rythm and good ball movement around the pitch, but were unable to break down the solid defending of MSU.

BG's next match will be away at the University of Detroit-Mercy this Friday. Game time is set for 4:00pm.

Come support the Falcons at our next home game, Sunday 9/6 at 1:00 vs IPFW.
