BG Defends Home Turf, Beats ISU 2-1

The BGSU Women's Soccer team earned a goal early in each half of Friday's matchup with Indiana State and were able to come out on top 2-1 in a rain soaked and aggressive match. Sophomore Alyssa Zuccaro was assissted by Jackie Tamerlano for the first goal of match, and then had a hand in BG's second goal, dishing it off to fellow forward Megan Amann who earned the game winner in the 2-1 win.

Incliment weather forced its way through the area, and caused for a delay in the game shortly before the half-time. Prior to the delay, the falcons were flying all over the field, and were able to control much of the run of play. However, following the break, ISU were able to re-gather themselves and put up a very good fight throughout the rest of the match. The BGSU offense put together many scoring opportunities and should have converted a few more of their chances on the night.

Overall though, the team is making great strides in their preparation for conference play later in the season. Goalkeepers Laura Arnold and Becca Ison both made their collegiate debuts in Friday night's match. Laura made an outstanding pk save to keep BG ahead 1-0 at half-time, and Becca recorded 6 saves in a very busy second half to keep BG on top after ISU found the back of the net on a corner.

The team will travel to Michigan State on Sunday to take on the Spartans, in what will likely be a very tough game against a highly skilled MSU team. Kick-off is set for 1:00pm

BGSU Opens up the Season against OSU

Last night, the BGSU Women's Soccer team traveled down to OSU to kick off the 2009 season. The 2009 campaign looks to be a successful one, despite last nights 2-0 loss to the Buckeyes of OSU. The team seems to have gotten out all of their jitters, having played a much better second half by creating some scoring opportunities against the buckeyes. The team now looks to bounce back with a home game against Indiana State scheduled for next Friday, August 28th at 5:00.

Goalkeeper Alexa Arsenault played a great game between the pipes against the buckeyes, thwarting several scoring chances produced by the home team. Senior Jen Czapka and Sophmore Katelyn Turner were also bright spots for the team.

Camp Shenannigans!

BGSU Women's Soccer Summer Camp just finished and was a huge success in both the eyes of the current players and coaches and in the eyes of those campers who were in attendance. The camp included a multitude of both individual and team instruction, while also including a light hearted atmosphere where banter and joking among the counselors and campers was a regular occurrence, and certainly created many opportunities for sharing laughs...which was usually at the expense of the current players and coaches-those campers can be ruthless! :)

Here is a top ten list of things learned at camp last week.

10.) Even though the counselors are current players in college, they will always relish the opportunity to act like a kid again and will never turn down a chance to pull off a practical joke!

9.) "Doctor, Doctor" is by far the best camp game ever. Be careful when joining though, it gets intense!

8.) Never ask Sam to tell any jokes. She doesn't know any good ones.

7.) If you see a mob of cheerleaders walking to lunch, always run to get in front of them! Don't worry, they will get out of the way.

6.) Note to counselors: Be careful when the campers ask to style your hair. You might end up looking like Princess Leah! J/K campers, you did a fantastic job :)

5.) Pirates say "Arrrrrhhh", Sailors say "Ahoy Matey!"

4.) Betting for a pack of skittles is always a good idea. Good job Little Peeps!

3.) Faith does a great monkey impression.

2.) Never play a game with Scott. He will always cheat!

1.) Hanging out with the current players and coaches always guarantees a good laugh. You are all a part of the BGSU family now, so keep in touch and let us know if you ever want to come to a game!

We are looking forward to seeing you this fall to cheer us on as we start our quest to take back the MAC championship! Keep your eyes out for information on our Winter Clinic and dates for next Summer's Camp. We will get the information to you as we finalize things!
