0-0 tie vs Ohio, Akron Zips are next up

Last night the BGSU Women’s Soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw with the Ohio University Bobcats. With the tie, we earned 1 more point toward our MAC standing total and now have a league record of 1-1-1.

The game winning goal seemed within our grasp throughout the entire game, but unfortunately we were unable to convert any of our many dangerous attempts on the OU goal. OU’s goalkeeper made numerous saves, including a breakaway, to keep OU in the game. The goal frame also denied us many times. You would have thought that we were playing a game of “crossbar”, having hit both the crossbar and goal post on a few of our shot attempts. On the afternoon, we outshot OU by a count of 16-10 and, by far, looked like the superior team. It was very disappointing to come away with a tie, when we clearly played well enough to earn the win, but the coaching staff was still pleased with the hard work and “push on” attitude of the entire team.

The defense , again, earned a clean sheet. Alexa Arsenault claimed her 6th complete shutout on the season, while the defensive back line increased their yearly shutout total to an impressive 8 games. Interesting and impressive fact: BG’s defensive play, all over the field, has allowed the team to post 6 shutouts in the last 7 games.

Today (Saturday) the team is currently in route to Akron for our next competition. The bus ride, so far, has been rather rocky. The road out of Athens that we started our trip on was extremely hilly and full of twists and turns. Moaning of “bus sickness” was echoed by all who were on the bus. Thankfully, we made it out of the country roads without anyone becoming too ill, and now everyone is peacefully resting as we finally travel up a normal highway road.

Later today we will have a training session upon reaching Akron to loosen up and to stretch our bus legs. Afterward, the Kordans have kindly volunteered to host the team for dinner. More updates to follow tomorrow after our game vs Akron!
