Last night, the BG Women's Soccer Team defeated Ball State in double overtime by a score of 1-0. With the win, BG upset the two time defending regular season MAC champs and improved their overall MAC record to 3-1-1. The win also earned the team 3 more points to add to their league total, bringing the Falcons into 2nd place going into Sunday's game vs Miami.
The game vs Ball state featured a match up between one of the best offenses in the MAC (BSU) against one of the best defenses (BG). BG's defense, again, held up against the opposition and posted another shutout (bringing their total to a record tying 10 shutouts). Equally earning praise is the BG offense who seemed to control the flow of the game while maintaining solid possession and creating quality attacking opportunties.
Although BG controlled much of the play throughout the game, they were unable to find the back of the net in regulation. However, senior Corbie Yee would rectify that trend 92 seconds into the 2nd overtime with her game-winning "golden" goal from a Megan Moran corner kick. Moran's corner found the head of Sam bland who headed it down for Katie Stephenson to play it back into the danger area where Yee was waiting to put it home. Following the goal, the team erupted for an on field celebration to share the excitement of the win.
BG will now match up against Miami (1:00pm at BG's Cochrane Field) on Sunday in another important MAC league tilt.
The winning goal!
