The BG Women's Soccer team put up 4 goals yesterday against a formidable Miami team, and yet again, kept a clean sheet on defense. With the win, the falcons remain in 2nd place in the MAC league standings, but the team put themselves in a position to jump ahead of 1st place Central Michigan as the two teams will battle it out next friday.
BG found goals from 4 different players yesterday. Alyssa Zuccaro scored the game winner around the 17 minute mark, which gave the falcons a 1-0 lead going into half time. Early into the second half, Senior Corbie Yee opened up the flood gates and scored her team leading 5th goal to put the falcons up 2-0. Freshmen Megan Amann and Katelyn Turner would round out the scoring for the day by each contributing a goal.
The defense warded off many Miami offensive attacks to keep the shutout. Defenders Faith Juillerat and Leah Johnson each cleared shots off the line to keep the opposition at zero. Goalkeeper Alexa Arsenault recorded her 8th shutout on the season. The record books were rewritten yesterday following the shutout. Arsenault has earned 8 shutouts on the year, which tops the list for any goalkeeper in the program's history. Likewise, the team as a whole also earned a spot at the top of the list for most shutouts in a season with 11. The previous record was 10 shutouts.
BG will now prepare for a tough Central Michigan team next week. Game time is 4:00 at CMU. Hope to see you there!
