Annual Holiday Party

The BGSU Womens Soccer team shared some holiday cheer at their annual holiday party last weekend. The team gathered at Scott's house for food, lots of laughs, and a gift exchange. As was expected, the majority of the gifts were meant to be "gag" gifts..and the room was filled with laughter for the majority of the exchange. A few of the more "interesting" gifts: A snow globe with coach scott's picture in it, goofy earings, a big purple hat, ipod speakers shaped like a soccer ball, a chipped coffee mug, a pink BGSU t shirt, and a dancing stuffed dog, just to name a few. The get together was a good break for the team since the school semester is winding down and most members of the team find themselves faced with dreaded final exams.

Right now, the team is lifting twice a week, running on their own, and playing pick up soccer whenever they can. Final exams will be over on December 19th and then the team will head home for winter break...eager, of course, for the upcoming spring season! More updates to follow as we head into winter break...

MAC Tourney Action

The BG Women's Soccer Team suffered a heart tugging loss against rival Toledo in the MAC Semi-finals on Friday that ended their 2008 MAC tournament run. Host Toledo netted the goal winner with 8 minutes left in regulation to claim a 1-0 victory over the Falcons.

The game was very evenly matched throughout, with each team exchanging scoring chances in the fast paced and physical match up. Jackie Tamerlano, Kate Stephenson, Z, Megan Amann and Corbie Yee all produced good scoring chances for the Falcons, but would be denied by the Toledo defense. Likewise, the BG Defense played very well. Special mention is deserved of outside back Leah Johnson for marking MAC POTY Molly Cornwell out of the game and of outside back Kaitlin Kobe who defended with tremendous effort and poise throughout the match to thwart many UT attacks. Unfortunately, a toledo attacker found a way to beat the Falcon's defense with a seemingly sliced shot that found its way into the upper corner of the net. GK Alexa Arsenault was able to get her fingertips to the shot, but was unable to push the shot over the bar. With the win, Toledo moves on to the MAC Championship and will face off against EMU.

The coaching staff would like to recognize the tireless and unwavering effort that this years Senior class contributed to the program. These 6 wonderful players and women have set an outstanding standard that will be hard to surpass, but will serve as an example for current and future BGSU teams to strive to eumulate.

Prior to the Semi Final upset, the Falcon Soccer team enjoyed an annual evening at the MAC Championship Banquet. Participation in the MAC Championships has become a regular event for the BGSU Womens Soccer team. The team has attended the Championship weekend a league-leading 8 times. The team earned some individuals honors at the banquet:

MAC All-Freshman Team: Alyssa Zuccaro and Megan Amann
MAC 2nd Team: Corbie Yee
MAC 1st Team: Colleen Kordan and Alexa Arsenault

Colleen Kordan and Leah Johnson were both named to the all MAC Tournament team following the completion of the weekend.

Victory over Broncos Sends BG to Semi-Finals

The Bowling Green Women's Soccer team defeated Western Michigan yesterday afternoon to clinch a spot in the MAC Tournament Semi-Finals. The team posted a very strong showing against the Broncos and came away with a 2-0 victory. BG came out flying and played some of their best soccer of the year. On the day, the Falcons generated 15 shots on goal and had many other dangerous chances to put a point on the board. Much credit deserves to be given to the WMU goalkeeper and defensive line for thwarting most of the BG offensive attacks. It took until early in the Second half for BG to score their first goal. Colleen Kordan calmly recorded the first goal of the game from a penalty kick awarded to BG from a WMU handball in the box. Z would round out the scoring midway through the second half to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Falcons. With the win, the Falcon defense notched an additional shutout, giving them an outstanding total of 14 for the year.

As mentioned, the win moves BG on to the Semi-Final round in the MAC Tournament. The Falcons will face rival Toledo in this Semi-Final Game on Friday at Scott Park on UT's campus. Kick off time is set for 2:00.

1-1 Draw vs Toledo

The BG Womens Soccer Team came from behind to earn a 1-1 tie with the Rockets last night at Cochrane Field. The Falcons found themselves behind early, but managed to charge back in the second half to tie the score at 1-1. It seemed like the Falcons were going to take the lead for the win, but as evident by the score, they would be denied. Freshman Megan Amann spun a defender and fired a shot past the UT keeper to score the goal for the Falcons. The two teams would exchange scoring chances for the remainder of the second half and both of the overtimes but neither would capitalize. The Falcons, however, appeared to be the better team and looked in good form.

With the win, the Falcons earned a #4 seed in the MAC tourney and will host Western Michigan in the Quaterfinals on Sunday at 1:00.

Senior Goals help Falcons Roll to 3-0 Victory

The BGSU Women's Soccer Team celebrated the careers of it's 6 outgoing seniors today with a victory over Buffalo. The seniors went out in style, each contributing to the win and a gain of 3 points in MAC play. Senior Gina Rossi scored the Game Winning Goal in the 13th minute, while fellow seniors K-Mac and Corbie Yee would also contribute to the 3-0 scoreline later in the game. Senior Captains Susan Hunter and Brianne Eisenhard contributed great performances in the midfield and Senior GK Christy Zabek combined with Alexa to preserve the Falcon's 13th shutout of the season. The coaches and players would like to sincerely recognize and give thanks to the 6 seniors for their outstanding efforts over their careers. Their commitment day in and day out has helped to shape this program. The seniors still have a lot of soccer left to play though...

With the win, the falcons have clenched a spot in the 2008 MAC post-season tournament. BG will face off against Arch-rival Toledo in the final regular season game this Thursday (10/30) at 3:00pm. The game will be played at Home.

1-0 Victory over Kent

The BG women's Soccer team battled the KSU Flashes to a 1-0 victory in rainy and cold conditions tonight at Cochrane Field. The falcons got on the board early in the 11th minute of the match with a goal from Alyssa Zuccaro. "Z" connected on a header from a corner kick that was driven in by fellow teammate, and freshman, Megan Amann. (The two connected for a similar goal just a few weeks ago in the victory over Miami).

Despite the unfavorable weather conditions and slippery playing surface, the falcons kept the majority of the game's possession and produced many other scoring opportunities that were dangerous. Alexa Arsenault and the back line posted another shutout, giving them a total of 12 on the season to date.

BG's next MAC opponent is Buffalo. The game will be played on Sunday at home, with a 1:00pm kick off time. The game on sunday is SENIOR DAY for the falcon's 6 outgoing seniors. The seniors will be recognized for their contributions and the enrichment that they have tirelessly given to the BGSU program over the past four [or 5 for Gina :) ] years.
