The BG Women's Soccer Team suffered a heart tugging loss against rival Toledo in the MAC Semi-finals on Friday that ended their 2008 MAC tournament run. Host Toledo netted the goal winner with 8 minutes left in regulation to claim a 1-0 victory over the Falcons.
The game was very evenly matched throughout, with each team exchanging scoring chances in the fast paced and physical match up. Jackie Tamerlano, Kate Stephenson, Z, Megan Amann and Corbie Yee all produced good scoring chances for the Falcons, but would be denied by the Toledo defense. Likewise, the BG Defense played very well. Special mention is deserved of outside back Leah Johnson for marking MAC POTY Molly Cornwell out of the game and of outside back Kaitlin Kobe who defended with tremendous effort and poise throughout the match to thwart many UT attacks. Unfortunately, a toledo attacker found a way to beat the Falcon's defense with a seemingly sliced shot that found its way into the upper corner of the net. GK Alexa Arsenault was able to get her fingertips to the shot, but was unable to push the shot over the bar. With the win, Toledo moves on to the MAC Championship and will face off against EMU.
The coaching staff would like to recognize the tireless and unwavering effort that this years Senior class contributed to the program. These 6 wonderful players and women have set an outstanding standard that will be hard to surpass, but will serve as an example for current and future BGSU teams to strive to eumulate.
Prior to the Semi Final upset, the Falcon Soccer team enjoyed an annual evening at the MAC Championship Banquet. Participation in the MAC Championships has become a regular event for the BGSU Womens Soccer team. The team has attended the Championship weekend a league-leading 8 times. The team earned some individuals honors at the banquet:
MAC All-Freshman Team: Alyssa Zuccaro and Megan Amann
MAC 2nd Team: Corbie Yee
MAC 1st Team: Colleen Kordan and Alexa Arsenault
Colleen Kordan and Leah Johnson were both named to the all MAC Tournament team following the completion of the weekend.

Victory over Broncos Sends BG to Semi-Finals
The Bowling Green Women's Soccer team defeated Western Michigan yesterday afternoon to clinch a spot in the MAC Tournament Semi-Finals. The team posted a very strong showing against the Broncos and came away with a 2-0 victory. BG came out flying and played some of their best soccer of the year. On the day, the Falcons generated 15 shots on goal and had many other dangerous chances to put a point on the board. Much credit deserves to be given to the WMU goalkeeper and defensive line for thwarting most of the BG offensive attacks. It took until early in the Second half for BG to score their first goal. Colleen Kordan calmly recorded the first goal of the game from a penalty kick awarded to BG from a WMU handball in the box. Z would round out the scoring midway through the second half to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Falcons. With the win, the Falcon defense notched an additional shutout, giving them an outstanding total of 14 for the year.
As mentioned, the win moves BG on to the Semi-Final round in the MAC Tournament. The Falcons will face rival Toledo in this Semi-Final Game on Friday at Scott Park on UT's campus. Kick off time is set for 2:00.
